Come on Clipper Race boat Da Nang Vietnam!

I am super excited to have a friend aboard Clipper Race boat Da Nang Vietnam for the next leg of the round the world race. My friend, Chris   (who I did my level one training with) has just joined the 15/16 RTW Clipper Race to race in leg 5. Leg 5 will start on Monday 18th January from Airlie Beach, Australia.

Skippered by Aussie superhero, Wendy Tuck, Da Nang is so far coming a respectable 7th, with 30 points in the overall race standings, but recently came 1st out of the Clipper fleet in the infamous Rolex Sydney-Hobart Yacht Race.

Leg 5 is a difficult leg, with extreme temperatures the fleet will start the race in the warmth of Australian Whitsundy Islands and will later experience the cooler seas and sub-zero temperatures off of Qingdao. Including an equator crossing and the infamous doldrums, where crews can expect little to no wind, the fleet will head up to Vietnam. Chris is on the Da Nang boat, so will no doubt get treated to an awesome party as they arrive for a brief stop in Vietnam and a huge ‘home coming’ welcome for the boat. After a brief stay the fleet will then continue with the leg, heading up to China where they can expect much cooler weather – a real extreme compared to their starting point of Australia and indeed Vietnam.

Chris and I completed our level 1 together, as his was a relatively last minute to join the current race, so he left his job packed in intense training (with no previous sailing experience) and set off to join the race.

Please get behind Da Nang and give Chris your support in this tough section of the RTW race. To follow the race click here.
