About Me

Hi, I’m Sam, and I am completely obsessed with all things water! Here I blog about fabulous beaches, sailing and inland water adventures, as well as offshore racing. I love to take my readers on those journeys, sharing the good times, and the bad.

The water lures me to it, it’s transfixing, relaxing, and yet able to give the biggest adrenaline rush I’ve ever encountered. The respect that the water commands is always forefront, but exploring it in any which way is always a given for me – The sea, the oceans, the beautiful lakes and rivers around the globe.

I’m also an advocate for protecting these environments, whether that be through supporting coral reef protection programmes, or getting out and going nurdle hunting!

If you’re reading this you are either curious family or friends, or you too are obsessed with the water. Either way, hello and thank you for reading my blog.

I am one half of ‘Sam and Steve Go Sailing’, a blog which my partner (Hodge) and I share. Here you will find even more of our adventures, as we sail the UK and French coasts together and with our family and friends.

For those that are equally obsessed with the sea, and who don’t know me yet, here’s a  quick fire ‘about me’:

I live in ‘Garden of England’ in the UK, with my other half (Hodge), a fellow water lover, sailor and cruising instructor, and my 3 children. I am a naturally adventurous, independent and determined type. I love taking on a challenge, I like to constantly push myself, to learn and to breakdown my own personal boundaries.

In my downtime, I can be found  sailing along the South Coast of the UK, on our beautiful yacht, Ruby May, with Hodge and my 3 children, who are pirates in the making!

I was crew on the Clipper Race 2017/18 (leg 8). I’m a commercially endorsed Offshore Yachtmaster and an RYA Cruising Instructor with over 10,000 nautical miles in my log book. One day, I would love to take my kids out of school, and sail around the world – that is my dream. I am the Female Sailing Ambassador for Dubarry of Ireland.

  1. hi i have just bought a pilgrim 25 river cruiser that needs a total overhaul. and help on companies you used would be great i also have to rebuild the wheel house before winter and the windscreen so abit of a task ahead

    1. We did all of the work ourselves, it was a mammoth task! Any bits and pieces we needed, we sourced from local chandleries, or ebay/internet. We also used our Marina’s Mechanic for engine work and any tricky gas work etc. Would love to hear how you’re getting on… or see any pics. It is a great boat to own. 🙂
