Sailing goals and ambitions for 2016

A New Year can only mean one thing… New resolutions, goals and ambitions. I love to set the bar high for the year ahead, and 2016 is no different. Here’s a quick run down of everything sailing related that I hope to achieve in 2016…

Training, training and more training!

This year is going to be a year of learning for me. I want to complete my RYA Coastal Skipper and Offshore Skipper, and make a start on my Yacht Master. I need to refresh my 1st Aid cert which has recently expired, and I need to get my VHF license. I also want to complete some more of my Clipper Race training.

Getting out on the water

I want to get out on the water as much as possible… this Summer I want to take my family away on our boat for our Summer holiday.

Buy a yacht!

I would love to buy a yacht this year… I am still undecided on exactly what. I initially thought of just buying a cheap small yacht (30ft or so) to have fun with at weekends and really ‘thrash’ and learn on, but now I am more tempted to buy a ‘serious’ yacht which I can keep up at St Kat’s Marina, London – she could double as a London base for me, and would be awesome fun for training on and holidaying on. Decisions, decisions. Whatever happens… I will be buying a yacht this year!

I need to invest in lots of pieces of kit this year… I need a personal EPIRB, a new electronic chart plotter, some decent salopettes, and some new boots… new boots will obviously be coming from Dubarry – the best of the best for off-shore sailing.

Continue on my #SailingFit mission

I’ve been on a mission to get fit… I’ve somewhat fallen off the wagon in the last few weeks, thanks to the festive season. But now all of the distractions are out of the way, I am going to get back on the wagon and hit the gym hard.
